Weezer

I realized how terrible it is, that I have not yet blogged about the band Weezer! Weezer is a fantastic alternative rock band. Some of their most favorite songs consist of, "Island in The Sun","Beverly Hills", "Buddy Holly", and "Undone(The Sweater Song)".  My favorite of those songs is "Undone(The Sweater Song)". However, there are so many reasons as to why these classics, along with other pieces of their music are admired.
As far as "Island in the Sun" and "Beverly Hills" go, both songs can relate to the desire to be elsewhere, or at a better state of present life. "Island in the Sun" describes what you can release of your stress, and putting into action a place we've all wanted to go to at some point to avoid life's difficulties. There are times where we just want to be happy, and life isn't easy but imagining a place to run away from your problems is not uncommon. "Beverly H
ills" can relate to this desire as well, however less of escaping the unfortunate parts of life, but living a better life. Wanting to be in Beverly Hills, is like saying you want to be a queen or king, or treated higher. The song refers to wealthy movie stars who make a lot of money, (basically media kings and queens) and are shown as so clean and perfect and popular, but the perspective of the song realizes that maybe they aren't qualified for that, and shoul enjoy what they do have, even though it is still a dream.
"Buddy Holly" has such radical guitar apart of it, it's ridiculous. The song is about being a protective boyfriend, and disregarding peoples' opinions for love. The song is sweet because he is talking about the happiness brought upon having one another, protecting this girl, not caring about others but each other,  and showing that they might not look like the coolest people on earth, but they have each other and the violence that wasn't necessary should end, because they don't care. At the end of the song around 30 seconds being left, there is an awesome riff that is personally my favorite part of the song.
"Undone(The Sweater Song)", is my favorite out of their most popularized songs because not only is it interesting the way that the voices of people were consisted to add an audience to the song, but a lot of what is spoken of before and during the song, corresponds to the  meaning,  and events happening within the song. The song deals with frustration and destroying a sweater. My guess is the sweater is symbolic to a jacket boyfriends give to their girlfriends sometimes, and destroying that is symbolic of the ways an upsetting relationship would "unravel" a person.
In conclusion I love Weezer so much, and hope to be blogging more about them, because they are a band I highly suggest.

Eddie Vedder Ukulele Album

Eddie Vedder is absolutely one of my favorite musical composers. He is not only the singer of Pearl Jam, but a very talented man as an individual artist.  He has done the soundtrack for "Into the Wild", and his Ukulele album is an extraordinary work of music.
Every song on the album has nothing but his soothing voice and the tranquility that is brought with the sound of a Ukulele. The album consists of softer covers of songs like "Can't Keep", (from Pearl Jam's album "Riot Act"), and "Sleeping by Myself", (from the album "Lightning Bolt"). The album also has some originals such as "You're True", "Tonight You Belong to Me", and so many others. I love how not only the sound is so silent and peaceful, but Eddie even incorporated sounds of the ocean. The album not only emphasizes love, but a rest of mind, and whenever I am discouraged I let go of the world around, and go to this happy place through his music.
My favorite songs on this album are "You're true", and "Longing to Belong". The reasons I feel such admiration towards these songs is because they focus of the positive aspects of the lover, as opposed to anger brought out in the hard rock band. The first song shows a commitment, and the second a desire for such commitment.
In conclusion, I highly recommend this album to turn to when life has you feeling sad, it allows you to establish peace and enforces tranquility and positivity.

The Animals

At this time I am currently into the artist "The Animals"'. This band was a rock band that started in the 1960s. They are very popular for their song, "House of The Rising Sun". The song can have many interpretations, but personally I believe the song is about ideas of a house of negativity or desperation for hope, as a representation of rarity and problems that are unsolved. The house is a representation of the impatience we all need to disregard, in order to overcome the challenges brought upon our shoulders throughout life. The need to be forgiven, and to be able to move on from the house of the rising hope to seek that hope. Other songs I admire by this group include "When I Was Young", "Spill the Wine", and my favorite "It's my Life", which was the first song I heard by this group."It's my Life'', can strongly connect to the social world,  because there are times people want to be so involved in impacting who you are, and society is constantly altering the "normal'' or ''cool''. Sometimes people would prefer questioning everything, and using positive influence to make them become who they want to be as a person, and accepting that being different is something that should be embraced. Regardless of society and it's impacts, we all live our own lives.

Guitar Techniques

Today in my guitar lesson I used a technique that was often used by Jimi Hendrix. Instead of using your index finger to hold a fret, or section divided by the metal rods of a guitar, by using your thumb you have more control and power over the sound of a chord. If you use your index finger, it can be difficult to have a full sound, in the circumstance the top frets of a sixth string are being used. You can also mute and increase sound. In songs like "Purple Haze", "Little Wing", and "Castles Made of Sand". By using this style of guitar playing, the songs he played would have more power and a more announcing presence.
The reason I learned this was for an extension of the song, "Californication", and it's guitar solo. Because of this technique, the song became so smooth and simplistic to play when it came to times where a note on the sixth string was a challenge to overcome.
The other technique I used was bending notes. Every time you hear a guitar play a note that sounds like it is falling or going up and down, the note is being bent. In order to make this noise, you go to the fret and string, and push the string and fret as upward as you can to allow a specific note to emerge. Bending notes is extremely common in rock music. Even in one of the most popular classic rock songs, "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zepplin, there is note bending in the solo.
In "Californication", by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, both techniques can be applied in the solo, are easy to apply, and very important as far as the sounds of rock go, especially Classic, and Alternative.

Suggested Covers

Many times there are covers of songs, that were originally popularized by a different artist. A cover is a term used to describe a song portrayed by another band than the original, indidualizes it, or tries to recreate its deep meaning. My personal favorite covers are Beatles covers.
The first cover I love is "Happiness is a Warm Gun". Originally done by The Beatles, and taken over by The Breeders. As opposed to having happiness be a warm hug or something less empty and cold, a warm gun was set out to symbolize the way society is. Many times there are more pessimistic ways to view the world, which the song was trying to emphasize. In the original song, ideas of cannibalism, death, breaking, and falling apart were illustrated. The rhythm included tambourine, and half way through the song it sounded all cheery despite what it was truly saying. Similar to many nursery rhymes that sound happy but really have a more broad and realistic messages, this song was trying to warn you about how trust isn't something you should have with another person, unless of course you are okay with falling apart and realizing the fact that things are not what they appear as. The reason I love this cover is because the instruments tell an entirely different story and make the song and it's meaning more powerful, in addition to the sound of a gun locking in the beginning.

"Pod" the Breeders Album that consists of this cover. Some covers are done live, but this one was recorded. It was on a song off of the Beatles "White Album".
Another cover I really love is one by Eddie Vedder. I love his music so much because his voice is so clean and powerful, and the fact he covered this song is incredible to me. Eddie Vedder covered "Imagine", by John Lennon. Imagine is a very peaceful and happy song in great contrast to "Happiness is a Warm Gun", depending on how you interpret it. "Imagine", is a song for very open minded people to give them a second to have an image of a world different than the one they surround themselves with. Political humor was embedded as he said "Imagine there's no country.. it isn't hard to do", in reference to the conflicts destroying peace at that time, along with opening eyes to the values of the listener. "Imagine no possession.. I wonder if you can". Both Eddie and John remaining entirely powerful artists, delivered the meaning of the song at an equal level of importance.  The song is a source to advertise tranquility amongst us, as we question,  or imagine what the normal is, and I still am amazed how well of a cover it was.

There are so many wonderful covers done of songs by my favorite band The Beatles, but the last one I was in awe of was "Oh!Darling" by Florence and The Machine. "Oh!Darling", was a very sweet promise to a lover not to hurt them, and how empty their life would be without them. The original version had the emphasis of dedication to this lover in terms of instruments as the drums and guitar sounds heightened, however, Florence had used her voice to deliver the strong meaning towards the end as opposed to instrumentals. The second I heard that cover I fell in love with it.
In conclusion, these are songs by The Beatles, that had extraordinary covers portrayed by other artists I love as well, allowing the meaning and beauty not to fade over the course of time.

"Do the Evolution Baby" Pearl Jam Video

Today I have decided to write about an insanely bizarre music video, by the radical grunge band Pearl Jam. The music video had corresponded with the song "Do the Evolution Baby", from Pearl Jam's album "Yield" in the year of 1998. Unlike other music videos, such as ones by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers or the Foo Fighters that involve members of the band, similar to the Gorillaz the music video was all virtually designed.
What I personally found interesting was the message the video was trying to give off. Regardless of the design or lyrics, the video showed the world through the eyes of a very pessimistic person. It showed a representation of the theory of evolution over the course of time, showing humans growing more monstrous, terrible, and frightening. It represented some of the morbid  wars and events that have happened in the world. The people society have known to hate, or wars that have only generated more darkness over the world. The human race in the video, had been evolving certainly. However, evolving closer in relation to death.
This female character is shown throughout the video. She is enjoying the terror amongst the people and darkness that has thrived. I believe she is either a representation for death itself watching and taking the life out of the people and world, or so dark and terrible to show how the world has turned away from love and life, causing her to become close with death. (As the world in itself is dying.)
If you have watched the news or heard of the horrible things that happen, there are times when you can be afraid of leaving your own home. The world is full of so many mistakes and selfish people, and  it can be viewed as a very sinister sense.
This face was exposed behind a mask of an attacking battle  person. An empty look into the skull, smiling at the face of pandemonium and pain. Similar to the times we can be blind to the harm we can do to others.

The cover of the album as title was represented in the video as well. The sky had been flaming and terror was being caused throughout the nations, and the yield could have been a representation for people to surrender into the dark acts and choices of society, and overcome what they have become.
The reason the video was interesting to me, is how dark ones view can be, and how
I fancy the unusual, despite the dark messages within, this view of the world is sinister, confusing, and leaves me inquisitive as to, is this how we really are?

Grohl

Dave Grohl is the man in the center. Accompanied by Kurt Cobain and Krist Novelselic.

Dave Grohl is a major figure in the rock world. He was the drummer for the band Nirvana, and now lead singer of the Foo Fighters.

This is him as a drummer a few years back.

Believe it or not, this morning I was less than a minute from my home, and he drove right past our car! I was so excited because in my guitar class I have been learning a song by the Foo Fighters called "Everlong". If that wasn't enough, the night of the oscars he did an amazing cover of the song "Blackbird" by The Beatles. (My favorite song!!)
This is a more modern photo of him.

Sadly, rumors about this man wanting to separate from his band and become an independent artist have spread all over. The Foo Fighters have been a strong group as a result of Dave Grohl's strong musical background in Nirvana, and imagining them breaking separate after all the records I have purchased along with admiration towards them, is such a miserable thought.
In conclusion, I felt writing about this artists because of the consistent presence his music has left in my life, and sending strong hopes for the well being of the band, hoping they do not spread apart.

The Death of The Fifth Beatle

Many people who have listened to The Beatles know John Lennon, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, and of course, Paul McCartney. The "Fifth Beatle" was the musical composer of the group, George Martin. A good portion of the music you may hear by this band, George was a greatly important figure of.   The band had very close relations to this man, as he was often referred to as the fifth part of this group. His constant appearance allows him not to be forgotten.
Unfortunately on March 8,2016 George Martin passed as a result of age. Because of his creative styles, The Beatles had their unusual sound. May it be the circus atmosphere of "For The Benifit of Mister Kite",  or the musical styling of the "Fixing a Hole" harpsichord, piano solo in "In my Life", and even  the arrangement for the soundtrack of "The Yellow Submarine", movie. Without this artist, the band loved around the world would be filled with the emptiness of a thriving and different sound it could have.
We can only hope that Martin is united with George Harrison, and Ringo Starr in a place beyond this. They truly are not dead, for every song you hear they still live on within continuing a spread of love and peace.

Last Splash

These are The Breeders
The Breeders are quite a groovy group of musicians. The band has Kim Deal from The Pixies, and Tonya Dolley from Throwing Muses. Their music is so awesome because it really takes you elsewhere and gives you a sense of controlled chaos. Basically what rock is supposed to do.
I am presently obsessed with this album called "Last Splash" by the Breeders. My favorite song of this album is called "No Aloha". The music by this band has such a cool sound, I'd describe it as 90s rock, with Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and a bit of The White Stripes. I also love the songs "Invisible Man", "Cannonball", and "New Year". The reasons I connect with this album so much is because things in my life are confusing and insane right now. I turn to music like this to shut the world out, and  listen to my own heart poured out through the emotions of another.
I have a lot of respect for this band because not many bands with so many females are as recognized in the rock world. They are known of, but this was a very successful group in great contrast to others. The music sounds vintage and live as you listen to it. It truly can not be put into words how much I love this band.
My belief on the title of "Last Splash", is that life is full of a series of waves. Unless you live it to the point where the last splash of life's' ocean may be soon, you will never be able to fully open your eyes to the life that really surrounds you.
I totally recommend this group of musicians, and especially this album.

Favorite Songs(Part Four)

This is the final part of my favorite songs. Simon and Garfunkel, Jack Johnson,Coldplay, and The Beatles.
This is Simon and Garfunkel.
One of my absolute favorite songs is by this folk rock group. The song is called,"El Condor Pasa". The songs describes rather being a forest than a street, and feeling the simplistic earth under your feet. As I had previously mentioned my love for nature, this song reminds me of how I'd prefer the more natural aspects of life over the meaningless entirely. This group of artists has so many songs I greatly admire, and highly recommend them.
This is Jack Johnson.
Jack Johnson is a very tranquil man who is both a professional surfer, and acoustic and soft rock artist, who now lives in Hawaii. His music is very calming and his love for both his lover and world is incredibly sweet. In the song," Do You Remeber?", Jack Johnson describes his young and beautiful love. The amount of love this man has for several aspects of his life, is indescribable and we can only hope people in the world could have such happiness as him. The song "Talk of The Town", is my favorite song by Jack Johnson. The song describes a wonderful place where the trees dance and the warm wind blows. It is similar to a state of happiness.

This is Coldplay.
Coldplay is my second favorite group of musicians. There truly is not music of this band I do not find connection and love
for. Although I have expressed my negative input on their new sound, I truly can connect on an emotional level with this
band. Some of my favorite songs by this group include songs such as "Don't Panic", "Violet Hill", "Sparks", and pretty much everything. I don't really feel that I have a favorite song by the group but loved to recognize them, regardless.

This is The Beatles.
The Beatles are my favorite band. I know they are so well known of, but growing up listening to them has just allowed me to have such passion and enthusiasm towards them. They have such an odd and amusing world perspective, and if one listens close enough there is so much meaning involved. I love the song "Blackbird". This is my favorite song I've ever listened to. The song tells a beautiful tale of waiting for that one minute you are given in life that changes you forever. Taking what you do not have and making something of it. Taking your sunken eyes to see, broken wings to fly, and having a silenced voice be heard. Whenever I am sad this song makes me feel hopeful and enlightened.
In conclusion these are my favorite pieces of music as well as artists.

Favorite Songs(Part Three)

In terms of the previous blogs, some more of my other favorite songs are by artists Elliot Smith, Smash Mouth, and Nirvana.

This is Elliot Simith.
Elliot Smith is truly an extraordinarily profound artist. The day I heard his music, I absolutely fell in love with the peculiar sound. Music is full of emotion and expression, and gives you a voice when no one is there to listen. You can absolutely hear Elliot in his music. The sound of his music takes you to a small town coffee shop in Seattle in the rain. His music tells so many stories and is unlike anything I have ever heard. Me loving his music is certainly rational.
A few examples of my favorite songs by him include,"Stupidity Tries", "Everything Means Nothing to Me", and "Between The Bars".
In "Stupidity Tries", you get an input of the stupid parts of life that may be upsetting, and still try to destroy the happiness in which we establish. Our foolish mistakes or incidents only support the person we will become and therefore stupidity does try, yet fails to succeed in possessing our treasures.
As for "Everything Means Nothing to Me", the song has an unusual and overwhelming sound that makes you question what matters to you. The reason I love these peculiar songs is because of their abnormal characteristics.
"Between The Bars", is a beautiful promise in my eyes. The bars are where Elliot is trapped in the midst of his emotions and promises love to his present lover. Despite our discontent circumstances at times, there are places in life, between what is terrible,(or the bars) and find happiness between them.
This is Smash Mouth
Smash Mouth is an alternative rock band formed in California of 1996. My favorite album from this band is definitely "Fush Ya Mung". Some of my favorite songs from this group include,"When The
Morning Comes", "Nervous in the Alley", "Walkin on the Sun", and "Padrino".
The first song I mentioned similar to "Morning Has Broken", illustrates an image of a new beginning day and the excitement it brings. Everyday you have the choice to live your life a certain way each day that comes, you just have to grasp opportunity.
The second song connects to any teenager like me. We are at a point in our lives, or an alley, where
we have anxiety and just want others to understand us. Things are overwhelming, confusing, and
certainly make us nervous.
As for "Walkin On The Sun", there is so much this world needs to change about itself and as people are complaining and not making a change, we are only growing farther from what we try to achieve in society. We as humanity complain and yet fail to make the effort to generate a change. The obstacle of time is dissolving in our presence, and this procrastination makes walking on the sun make more sense.
The final song "Padrino", talks about the complex aspects that thrive within our secrecy at times from one another. Catching secrets and lies can be seen a crime in itself.
This is Nirvana.
Nirvana was a grunge rock band consisting of Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, Kris Kovoselic, and Pat Smear
Nirvana is an absolute sick band. Their music is so deep but covered by great sound. Nirvana screams the sad and angered emotions we all feel at some point in our lives. My favorite songs by Nirvana are, "Lithium", "Heart Shaped Box", and "Something in the Way".
"Lithium" is great because although it really is sad to find your friends are nonexistent, and for depressing events  as a whole to thrive amongst life, feeling not okay is okay. It is realistic.
"Heart Shaped Box", describes being stuck within a relationship where even the most delicate of things can generate damage. There is constant complaint, but still there is mutual respect for the other.
"Something in the Way", describes the odd truth that there is always something that we see as horrible but all in all despite how bad something may seem really isn't that bad.

All of these songs truly have helped me through life and have so much meaning which I have found fascinating.

Favorite Songs (Part Two)

Continuing my blog referring to my favorite artists, and songs, in addition to having an undying love for hard rock, and alternative, soft rock really speaks to me as well.

This is Cat Stevens, now Yusuf Islam.
Many of my favorite songs that have spoken to me on a more emotional level are sung by Cat Stevens. The album "Tea For The Tillerman", was discussed in my blog about songs perfect for the crisp air of autumn. The song "Peace Train",  from another album, really speaks to me because it associates with finding a true state of peace and tranquility. Once you board the peace train you are headed home. This could have several interpretations as the train could be the passage to eternal life, or heaven, or could be the train humanity needs to find itself on, considering our hatred and conflict.
"Father and Son", is a song that makes me understand that life can vanish quickly and at my age I have the time to relax and enjoy as much of it as I can. It also brings me in the perspective of my parent, as I get older  I am slowly losing the constant help to function, and can do things on my own, which I am sure could be upsetting for a mother.
My top favorites include "Moonshadow". The song allows you to realize just how much you have in your life and how no matter your circumstance. If you lose your hands, you won't have to work. If you ever lost your eyes, you wouldn't have to cry anymore. If you lose legs, you won't have to walk anymore. If you lose your mouth, you won't have to talk. No matter how terrible life may seem, you will find a positive source of energy. No matter what you lose, you still will gain. You will be rich in the aspects of life, if you take a second to realize they are there.
My final favorite by Cat Stevens is called,"Morning Has Broken". My passions not only thrive in the heart of music, but in the spirit of nature. The song discusses the essence of early morning, how the dawn of day can be the start of beauty. Nature is referenced in the sense that everything is new and precious come a new day. Similar to spring, the flowers blossoming a new, the birds sounding as if their first, the song makes you feel anything is possible, and every day certainly does not need to be ordinary and can be a sign of hope.

My Favorite Songs (Part One)

I love music, I hope you can tell. However I do have my favorite songs. These are a few of my favorite songs.

A numerous amount of my favorite songs are from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. As shown as above, the band has a lot of energy and unique music and style.
My absolute favorite album is "I'm With You". I love in that album the two songs "Meet Me at the Corner", and "The Adventures of Raindance Maggie".
The first song is very sad, because it illustrates a scene of losing someone and making mistakes that ultimately impact relationships. Waiting, nothing to do, for love to return after messing up and not being able to bear the image of someone you care for sitting alone on at the corner. Over the course of time the two were reunited and the song just follows the beautiful storyline. As for the second, you experience a vision of wanting the rain. Wanting whatever the rain may be in your case if life, facing challenge that ultimately results in happiness. I also love "Under the Bridge", "Did I Let you Know", "Dance,Dance,Dance", and so many other songs by this amazing group.

Pearl Jam is so awesome.  The band includes so much music, that  I have just fallen in love with how fast and how much rock is involved in singing lyrics, that actually have meaning. For example, the song quite overplayed but never wrecked by the band,"The Fixer", which is so sick.
The song discusses overcoming any situation with always something to overcome it with. Hence the title "The Fixer". The lyrics describe several issues constantly overcome and the song itself is so awakening to life ands its challenges and one of my favorites.
However, I truly  love a slower song called, "Last Kiss". It tells the story of a terrible car accident where a man lost his love, and despite the accident with his dead lover next to him, questions why she left and yet promises to be good to reunite himself with her when he dies. Listening to the song, you feel the tears running down your face, and smell the rain and flames and it seems vivid.
I also love in "Riot Act", the album's song  "Cropduster". Many songs explain events that are perfect and happy, but this song explains how we all connect, and the world itself is a mess and accepting it is alright. The lyrics say " This world is an accident.. This world is upside down." We are all really confused and we should embrace our mistakes and reality, and realize we really do not differ from the other. There is no point in making fun of anyone. "Eyes no eyes, every life looks within", is a dominant lyric in the song. Despite our obstacles, we both are trying to understand life, and it's alright to be confused.
I will continue with more of my favorite music but till then rock on.

Coldplay Disappointment

My second favorite group of musicians is Coldplay. For every album ever released the emotion, the feelings of loss and strength, love and anger, have all impressed me. The amount of love the band shows for the world and so many things is truly extraordinary. ( No offense to listeners of pop music, but lately there is not much depth in meaning), which I realized has over the course of time become what Coldplay has evolved to. Coldplay once was truly a great alternative rock band, but I fear due to their new album "A Head Full of Dreams" they are now more alternative pop.  I feel the one album released before this "Ghost Stories" represented the transition of their music. The ghost stories are tales of a dead, past, styles of the band. As the music is the same, there is less music, more machinery and technology as opposed to raw guitar and alternative vibes, that  have been sent to an earlier time. I am now upset to hear the new album and it's theme.
This is the style Coldplay originally had. A bunch of British alternative rock artists.
This is one of the most recent photos of the band. Seemingly enlightened by life, the original feels of the band have left.
Despite the more optimistic side of the band, the music that represented them at the times of being more realistic and easier to relate to, in complex life obstacles, we all at some point find ourselves facing, was more dominant in my music taste. Because the past music had a more meaningful flow that would allow you to feel what the artists felt, the new album if Coldplay is in great contrast to that of the past.

Sudden Deaths?

I have realized a sad pattern, at least that has been all over the media. Artists suddenly seem to be dying, becoming sick, or getting very old. We just lost the rock singer David Bowie and the guitarist of the band The Eagles, Glen Frey died as well. I was never a major dedicated fan to either, but I do know music from both, and for rock fans internationally they will be greatly missed.
David Bowie was famous for songs such as "Space Oddity", "Changes", and "Moonage Daydream". You may be unfamiliar with him and his work, but David Bowie was also featured in several movies. He made an appearance in "Zoolander", with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson as a judge of a fashion show. His most famous movie was called "The Labyrinth." His character was Jareth, the main antagonist of the movie who stole a young boy and separated the girl who was responsible for him in a complex maze.  On January 10, 2016 Bowie died in a battle with cancer.
He, his acting and music, will be very missed.

This is David Bowie.

His character Jareth sits with the orb in his hand.

As for The Eagles loss, Glen Frey, was the guitarist of a great group of musicians. The Eagles are most commonly recognized by their song "Hotel California". The band formed in 1971, right in Los Angeles, California. The sounds coming from his guitar supported the beauty of the band. On January 18,2016 the world lost Grey to pneumonia, arthritis, and other glowingly terrible health conditions.  The sounds of his guitar still haunt the minds and hearts of supporters globally.
This is Glen Frey.
It is unfortunate that life flies by so very quickly, but both of these musicians will be very missed considering their impacts on the world, through the language of music which goes far beyond the ear, but to the depths of the soul.
